Urgent Care Services for Cats

When something feels off with your cat, you shouldn’t have to wait days for an appointment or rush straight to the emergency hospital. Our urgent care services provide timely medical attention for non-life-threatening concerns, giving you peace of mind when your cat needs to be seen quickly.

We offer same-day urgent care appointments, so you can get answers and relief without unnecessary delays. From vomiting and diarrhea to limping, minor injuries, or sudden behavioral changes, our team is here to assess the issue, provide treatment, and help your cat start feeling better as soon as possible.

When to Seek Urgent Care for Your Cat

You may want to schedule an urgent care appointment if your cat is experiencing:

  • Urinary issues (straining, frequent trips to the litter box, urinating blood)
  • Toxin or foreign body ingestion
  • Bite wounds or abscesses (common with outdoor cats)
  • Parasite concerns (fleas, mites, sudden itching)
  • Ear or eye issues (redness, discharge, squinting, head shaking)
  • Significant behavioral changes (hiding, aggression, decreased interaction)
  • Coughing, sneezing, or upper respiratory symptoms
  • Dehydration or changes in water intake
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
  • Cuts, abrasions, or skin infections
  • Mild lameness, pain, or reluctance to jump
  • Rash, hives, or facial swelling
  • Scooting or signs of discomfort
  • Overgrown or broken nails

If you’re unsure whether your cat’s symptoms require immediate attention, give us a call. One of our team members will walk you through what’s happening and help you determine the safest next steps for your cat’s health and comfort.

Urgent Care FAQs

What’s the difference between an urgent care visit and an emergency?

Urgent care is for medical concerns that require prompt attention but are not life-threatening. An emergency involves life-threatening conditions that require immediate medical care for survival.

Examples of life-threatening emergencies in cats include:

  • Being hit by a car
  • Severe difficulty breathing
  • Inability to urinate (especially critical in male cats)
  • Excessive or uncontrolled bleeding
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Collapse or seizures

If you believe your cat is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call our office immediately at (203) 614-1776.

Is Just Cats Veterinary Hospital equipped to handle life-threatening emergencies during regular hours?

Yes. During our regular business hours, our medical team is equipped to provide emergency and lifesaving care.

What if my cat needs hospitalization or surgery during the visit?

Our doctor will discuss all recommended treatment options with you and review next steps. In some cases, specialty surgery or 24-hour monitoring may be required. If that level of care is needed, we will coordinate a transfer to a trusted specialty or emergency hospital.

Can I drop my cat off for an urgent care visit?
We offer a limited number of drop-off appointments each day. If you’re interested in a drop-off option, please call our office to check availability and review drop-off instructions.
What payment options do you accept?
We do not offer in-house payment plans. We accept major credit cards, checks, cash, CareCredit, Trupanion and Scratchpay. Our team will review all treatment estimates with you before proceeding.
How do I schedule an urgent care appointment?
If your cat has a non-life-threatening medical concern, please call our office to check same-day urgent care availability.
Do you offer urgent care after business hours?

We do not offer urgent care services outside of our regular business hours. If your cat requires medical attention when we are closed, please contact a local urgent care or emergency facility, such as:
